Application readiness check
Twelve questions, answered the way an assessor would read your file. You get a readiness band, a fix-first list and a gather list you can print.
What does the readiness check measure?
It measures how complete and consistent your application would look to an assessor if you lodged it today. The twelve questions cover the six areas that decide how a file reads: identity, trading history, bank statements, tax and BAS, existing debts and security. Each answer scores two for yes, one for partly and nothing for not yet, giving a total out of twenty-four.
The score is deliberately about preparation. It says nothing about whether a lender will approve a loan, because that depends on trading, cash flow, security and pricing that no web page can see. What it can show is where an assessor would be most likely to stop and ask a question, which is the cheapest place to improve.
How do the four bands work?
| Band | Score | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Ready to lodge | 20 to 24 | Few likely questions. Assemble the pack and go. |
| Nearly there | 14 to 19 | A handful of gaps. Fix the top two or three first. |
| Tidy first | 8 to 13 | Several areas would trigger queries. A weekend of work changes the picture. |
| Start with the basics | 0 to 7 | Begin with lodgements, statements and a debt list, then re-run the check. |
None of the bands is a verdict. Plenty of businesses enquire in the lower bands and sort the paperwork while a specialist talks them through options. The check just tells you where to spend your time.
Why these twelve questions?
Each one corresponds to a place where files commonly slow down. Photo ID and name matching come first, because mismatches are checked early and block everything else. The trading-history questions test whether the file has a clear story. The bank-statement questions test the most current evidence you hold. The tax questions check whether the ATO position is knowable. The debt and credit questions test whether the assessor will find commitments you have not mentioned. The last question covers property, if it is part of the plan.
Behind every question there is a page that explains the repair: the seven questions lenders answer, the usual reasons for a decline and the document packs by structure. Your fix-first list links straight to the one that matches.
What should I do with the result?
Work down the fix-first list in order. Print the gather list and tick it off. Then build the exact checklist for your structure with the document pack builder. When you are ready, lodge your free enquiry; it takes about a minute, does not touch your credit file at this stage and goes to one real person, not a crowd of lenders. Please answer the form accurately, so the first call can start with your situation rather than corrections.
Frequently asked questions
Is the readiness check a credit check?
No. It runs entirely in your browser, asks nothing about your credit file beyond whether you have looked at it, and stores nothing. It is a self-assessment to help you prepare.
What does the score mean?
It is a guide to how complete and consistent your application would look to an assessor today. A higher band means fewer likely questions. It is not a prediction of any lender's decision, which depends on much more than preparation.
Why are some questions about things like captions and matching names?
Because those are the details that most often slow files down. They cost almost nothing to fix before lodging and several days to fix afterwards.
Should I wait until I score in the top band before enquiring?
No. The enquiry is free, takes about a minute and involves no credit check at the first stage. Use the check to prepare in parallel, and a specialist can tell you what is worth doing first for your situation.
Can I print or save my result?
Yes. Use the print button to produce a one-page checklist with your fix-first and gather lists, or copy the text into your own notes.
Does the check work on a phone?
Yes. The questions are tap targets, the result updates as you answer and the print layout is designed for a single sheet.
